Decision to Alphonso Davies.
The left-back is not part of Canada’s Concacaf Gold Cup squad, the federation announced on Monday.
The Gold Cup begins on June 24 and will be played in the United States and Canada until July 17 and is the continental championship.
If Davies had participated (successfully) himself, he would have missed the start of preparations with FC Bayern. But now he is blowing a little and is expected on July 13 at the start of the Munich team.
Two years ago, Davies tore the lateral ligament in his left ankle with the national team as he prepared for the Gold Cup, which takes place every two years.
In that regard, Davies’ absence from the Canadian team is good news for the record champions and their supporters.
“Some important players will be absent from the summer tournament who will stay in Europe to prepare for the 2023/24 season with existing or new clubs,” the Canadian association said, naming Tajon Buchanan (FC Bruges) and Jonathan David (LOSC Lille) in addition to Davies.
This weekend, Davies was on the pitch as the United States lost 2-0 in the Concacaf Nations League final.
Advisor Nick Huoseh recently told TSG: “I know he won’t be in the Gold Cup. Managing an athlete like Alphonso Davies is a lot of work and we have to try to manage his schedule.”
Moreover, his adviser caused a sensation.
Huoseh nodded tsn.cone after. “There’s a lot to navigate there,” the agent said: “I’ve spoken to other clubs – they’ve messaged and spoken to us; but we haven’t had in-depth discussions with anyone.”
