Just Do It – Nike partners with EA Sports to integrate NFTs

Nike is taking a big step forward for non-fungible tokens (NFT) and crypto games as its proprietary .Swoosh NFT platform will soon be integrated into games from leading development studio EA Sports.

in statements so, starting June 1, Nike is announcing that its own “virtual creations” – the sporting goods maker’s euphemism for NFTs – will be incorporated into EA Sports games in the coming months. However, neither Nike nor Electronic Arts are currently disclosing which game titles will contain the digital collectibles.

EA Sports games include the popular football simulation FIFA – voted the “most popular game” of 2022 – as well as the Madden NFL football series and the basketball game NBA Live. Nike NFTs are expected to be customizable wearables or digital clothing that players can purchase and dress on their in-game characters.

“This partnership will allow us to bring incredible new experiences to our .SWOOSH community and the huge EA SPORTS fan base,” said Ron Faris, General Manager of Nike Virtual Studios.

Nike first introduced its .swoosh NFT platform in November 2022, but didn’t release a first NFT collection on it until early 2023.

On May 15, .Swoosh released this first NFT collection, a virtual shoe line dubbed Our Force 1, a not-so-subtle nod to the brand’s iconic Air Force One sneakers. At press time were noisy Data Polygonscan has sold over 97,000 sneaker NFTs to nearly 53,000 addresses.

In December 2021, Nike entered the metaverse by acquiring virtual sneaker brand RTFKT. The leading sporting goods manufacturer has also launched a virtual Nikeland there.

Although .Swoosh uses similar tools and technologies to RTFKT and Nikeland, the sports giant’s three projects are independent of each other.
