Ottawa/Vancouver (AP) – A street in Ottawa is named after Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds (45).
Reynolds was very committed to Ottawa, especially during the pandemic, the mayor of the Canadian capital, Jim Watson, wrote via Twitter. “It’s clear that Ottawa holds a special place in Ryan’s heart – and to honor him, I will be proposing a bill to have a street named after him.”
Reynolds, who rose to fame with films such as Green Lantern and Deadpool, was born in Vancouver, western Canada, but also spent part of his childhood in Ottawa. He now lives in the United States with his wife, actress Blake Lively, and their three children.
“It’s an incredible honor and business is business, Mayor,” Reynolds replied to Watson’s tweet, joking, “I changed my daughter’s name to Ottawa.”
In 2020, Reynolds had reacted very differently to a similar move. At that time, a Vancouver radio station launched an ironic petition to name a street in the metropolis of Western Canada after the actor. The campaign quickly gained a lot of attention on social media. The city usually only names streets after dead celebrities, but Reynolds deserved it anyway, the radio station said at the time.
Reynolds rejected the proposal via Twitter: “That’s very nice, but by no means,” the actor wrote at the time. “When traffic is bad, everyone would be like, ‘Ryan Reynolds is in chaos’ or ‘Ryan Reynolds is in a traffic jam’. My brothers would have way too much fun with that.”
